The Glen Williams Town Hall Board is looking for some fresh, new faces.
Trustees are elected to serve on the board each year at the annual general meeting, which will be held tomorrow (Thurs-day) evening, at Glen Williams Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Anyone interested in serving on the board is asked to come out and put their name forward.
The board consists of nine trustees elected annually to own, manage and maintain the Town Hall, which was built in 1871 and has served the community ever since. The board also organizes meetings, in connection with the Town Hall, functions and events.
The trustees are elected by residents and owners of businesses in Glen Williams.
The Town Hall Board sponsors several regular events and has undertaken many special projects.
Annually the Board organizes and sponsors the village’s Canada Day celebrations and provides a complimentary lunch each month for village senior citizens.
It also donates to the Rotary Club of Georgetown Seniors’ Christmas dinner, hosts the Children’s Christmas Party for village children, organizes the Earth Day clean up of the village, pays for the candles students place at the cenotaph during the candlelight tribute on VE Day and replaces flags as needed at the cenotaph, the park and parkette.
The board also financially supports Glen Minor Ball and several other groups such as Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills (CAShh), the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation and Georgetown Little Theatre.
The street signs in the village were designed and paid for by the Hall Board, it erects and manages the Glen Williams sign board at the Glen Bridge and has put benches, lights and gardens in the park, parkette and cemetery. It has also donated to playgrounds at Glen Williams Public School and park, and spearheaded the campaign to build the gazebo in the park.
Joe Coutts, a trustee of the board, said members serve one-year terms, and the board meets the third Thursday of each month, except for July and August when there are no meetings.
He said board members can devote as much or as little time to the role as they choose.
Coutts said they prefer board members live in Glen Williams, but people who live nearby are also welcome.
The Town Hall is located at 1 Prince St.
