Silver Creek Public School believes that Facebook is here to stay and wants parents to be aware of security issues and safety issues.
A Facebook 101 seminar will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the school, 170 Eaton St. in Georgetown, starting at 7 p.m.
Participants will learn...
• How to set Facebook’s basic and advanced, search, privacy and posting tools.
• What happens when you download any of Facebook’s more than 35,000 third-party applications such as SuperPoke, FunSpace, Top Friends and Bumper Stickers.
• How to distinguish between a Facebook Friend, Acquaintance and Stranger— and the potential impact (and pitfalls) it can have on your real-world reputation and career.
• The single most critical question to ask as you evaluate each of your Facebook “Friends.”
• How to limit access to certain Facebook Friends, and allow full access to others.
• What really happens to the information you post to your profile and to your Friend’s profiles.
• The “Hotel California” syndrome of Facebook (You can check out any time you like.....).
This seminar will be led by trainer Chris Vollum who is based in Oakville and uses his Facebook page to interact with family and friends. His hands-on, user-friendly workshop details the “nuts and bolts” of how to maximize Facebook settings with an emphasis on safety, security and privacy.
The complete Facebook 101 course is available for only $15 on an easy-to-follow CD, available at the presentation, which includes unlimited e-mail support. Five dollars from the sale of each CD will go to improving the playground at Silver Creek Public School.
Please RSVP to this event by e-mailing kellyhaley@cogeco.ca or call Kelly, 905-702-8775.
