Acton Seniors Centre seeks imaginative people for fundraising
Friday August 22 2008
JULIE CONROY, Acton Seniors Centre

Bev Jones is desperately looking for people who would like to join his fundraising committee. He doesn’t need you to work at the fundraising events, but is looking for fresh ideas and input. Of course, if you should decide that you would like to head up a project, he would be really happy. The meetings are on the first Tuesday of the month at 10 a.m. If you would like more information call Bev, 519-853-3054.
The new Hillsview newsletters should be out soon. I would like to hear your comments. Does it have more articles that interest you? Are the calendars of special events easier to read? We have been working very hard to make it more informative and reader-friendly.
I see there are more names on the bridge signup list. Is anyone interested in organizing this game? It could be on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, Thursday afternoons or as an evening activity.
I see the Coffee and Chat group has become very popular and grown from four people the first Tuesday to 17 last week. It will finish in September unless someone is interested in taking over from Marg Allen and organizing it on Tuesday mornings during the fall.
I understand the scrapbooking is still taking place on the last Monday of the month. The next one will be on Monday, August 25, 7 p.m. It’s a great project to start if you have been on holiday, attending a family reunion or wedding and are keeping all those pictures in a drawer. It is a wonderful way of passing on to your family, memories of events that have happened during their lifetime. I know I made one for each of my children with pictures of themselves when they were children, the special events in their lives, plus pictures of their grand parents and great grandparents. My grandchildren enjoy looking through and asking who everyone is. It’s a wonderful way to keep the memories alive of those who have perhaps passed on, but were an important part of your family
At the back of the travel desk we have a collection of coffee containers filled with the plastic tags you get on milk and bread. We started to save them as someone knew a “good cause” that could use them, but no one remembers which good cause it was. Do you? Please call the Centre, 519-853-5951 if you can help us find a good home for them.
We seem to have lost the little white lap table Pat used for accounting. If anyone has one of these tables (either wood or plastic) they no longer use, Pat would love it! It was perfect for doing her paper work at the Centre.
Tickets for the fall social dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 10 are now available at the Front Desk. Victor and his crew have arranged to have everyone’s favourite—  Swiss Chalet chicken as part of the meal. Get your tickets early!
Members of the Georgetown Seniors Centre are invited to join us on our Gals on the Go trips and any other programs that interest you. Give the Acton Seniors Centre a call, 519-853-5951 for more information. All pickups for the Gals on the Go trips are only from the Acton Seniors Centre. If you put your name down for any of the Gals on the Go trips please make sure you pay as soon as possible so I can confirm numbers.
The trips with Great Canadian fill up really quickly. The next trip with seats available is on Saturday, Oct. 4 for the all-day Orillia Boat Cruise. It’s an early start (7:15 a.m.) with a continental breakfast, followed later by a buffet lunch while cruising Lake Couchiching, the Upper Severn River and Sparrow Lake. Both meals are included in the price. The leaves should be turning by then, so it should be a beautiful trip.
If you are looking for a mini-vacation that takes in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City and back to Montreal, the travel desk has a great trip for you. You would be picked up and returned to Acton, so you just need to sit back and enjoy the ride. The price includes guided tours, a boat cruise and your accommodation. An added bonus is dinner in Quebec City and on your return in old Montreal. The travel desk has more information if you are interested.
